How to make macarons

As promised I made macarons on Thursday. Then again on Saturday and this time they were perfect. It took two attempts but I think I have mastered the art of making macarons.

First try

Before I publish my fail proof recipe I would like to give some pointers which learnt the hard way.

I decided to get a bit experimental and used cold eggs once and room temperature eggs another time. Both whipped exactly the same. So no need to wait for an hour for room temperature eggs.

The amount of sugar needs to be twice the amount of whites. It doesnt depend on the number of eggs but rather the amount of whites. Also add sugar bit by bit. I added roughly 1tbsp every 30 to 40 second. This cause no lumpy sugar.

The next is using both salt and lemon juice. You can use cream of tartar or white vinegar instead of lemon juice. Add the salt when your egg whites are bubbly due to slight whipping. This happens within a minute of whipping. Salt makes it easier for your whites to whip and also faster. And as for lemon juice add it when you reached soft peaks. This stabilises the egg whites.

Recipe

Ingredients:

1. Egg whites-1/4c

2. Sugar- 1/2c

3. Lemon juice-1/4tsp

4. A pinch of salt

Procedure:

Preheat oven to 140 degree Celsius.

Put egg whites in a bowl with enough space for it to expand and start whipping with your electric beater on medium speed.

Then after egg whites reach a bubbly texture add in your salt.

Whip for another minute and a half or till your egg whites turn white. Then keep on adding 1 tbsp of sugar each 30 to 40 seconds.

Keep on whipping till you reach soft peaks and then lemon juice and vanilla.

This time you are gonna whip in full speed for another two minutes or till stiff peaks are reached. The best way to check this is that egg whites don’t move when u move the bowl or even flip it.

You may divide the batters and add colors of your choice to it. I added sprinkles the second time I did this.

Next place a parchment paper on your baking tray. Put the batter in a piping bag or zip lock bag and pipe in accordance to your wish.

Place the tray in your oven and bake for 80 to 90 minutes. After that don’t open your oven door and keep it in there for 30 minutes. It’s suggested to do this for 2 hour or more but 30 minutes was enough for me.

Learning to bake

I am a girl who can’t cook. I never had the time, patience or willingness to learn to cook. But since I am old enough and the only thing I can cook is ramen and tea, I decided its time to learn to cook since I can’t live on boxed foods. And eating food from outside and boxed foods took a toll on me.

So I decided to learn to cook and my mom taught me some basic stuff to fill my tummy. But I got bored. And decided to learn how to bake. Once a week I am gonna bake something thats well edible and tastes good.

Each recipe is gonna be taken from youtube but I will mix it up a bit in accordance to my taste and well on what I have at home. I am gonna describe my experience and what problems I faced while baking.

Tomorrow I am gonna make my first batch of meringues. I thought I would start small. Fingers crossed

How I healed my acne

I have a love hate relationship with my skin. Some days it’s pretty great while the rest days it sucks. I used to struggle with acne. As soon as an acne would heal, another would pop up.

I have been to a few dermatologists. And they all came to one conclusion its teenage acne and will heal. They would prescribe a mild acne cream and tell me to wash my face twice a day and drink 8 glasses of water. Like I haven’t thought of that. The creams slowed my pimples popping on skin but didn’t stop it.I eventually figured a routine that made my skin better.

The first and most important step is washing your face. But don’t over wash it. Over washing actually makes your skin produce more oil and thus clogged pores. Say you came back home from outside at around 5pm and washed your face with face wash and applied moisturiser but no makeup. I won’t suggest washing your face with face wash again before sleeping if u haven’t did something that made you sweaty. Just wash it with plain water. Water moisturises your skin. And post that you can do your whole face routine.

My favourite face wash is BIODERMA SEBIUM FOAMING FACEWASH. When I first used it, it didn’t show any difference.

A minimalist’s guide to bullet journalling📖📖

OK, so I am gonna come straight to you guys. I heard about bujo last year and I was so into it. All those cute pretty stuff you could do and feel so organised. I jumped right to it.

I designed a whole bujo for January last year . I ain’t an artist and am average at doodling. So all those adorable designs felt tooooooo overwhelming and time consuming. And with my hectic schedule, I lost track of bujoing and gave up after February.

I always wanted to go back but after spending hours searching for the perfect theme for that month, I was too distracted and would say I will do it the next day and I wouldn’t. I started using my bujo diary for rough writing and it looks cute on my table.

This year I decided to go back to bujoing cause last year I really felt like if I wrote it down, I was more compelled to do it. And I made one change this time, I kept it simple and less time consuming but just as effective.

Also I decided to use A4 paper instead of an entire diary since I was just giving it a try. And didn’t wanna waste an entire diary. If I feel like I can do it regularly after January, I am gonna buy a diary. You can do it anywhere you like paper, diary or even a notebook.

The setting up was simple. I took 8 A4 size paper, you can take any you prefer and then stack them up. Secure their sides using metal clips and then fold them to make a book like structure. Staple the closed end. Do it every 3 inches for better hold and as far left as you can. And you have your bullet journal for the month of January. You can use as many pages as you want in accordance to what you want to enter.

Now comes the decorating.

I found this idea on Google. It’s pretty simple. I just wrote January in cursive and drew fairy lights around it to go with the new year theme. It took me 5 minutes. I also laminated it to make it more secure.

Next is my monthly logs. I wrote the JANUARY in block letters using a highlighter and then again in cursive over it using a black gel pen. Then I drew 31 1 inch by 1 inch square boxes which where my dailies. I drew some straight lines at the right side where my monthly goals would go and the space below was for notes or reminders.

As you can see, I wasnt super neat about it. I made mistakes and I just went along with it cause who cares. We are all a bit messy in our ways.

I wrote what’s important that day or what I should do that day in boxes. Like I marked the days I am gonna blog or when I have my next test. The super important ones like the day I have a train ride or the day my college starts gets highlighted. Also, I planned one week at a time and put them down except for events that’s gonna happen on that day no matter what like a test, birthdays or weddings. This way I don’t feel too stressed and change my future plans in accordance to the events that are occuring at present.

Next is my weekly log. I just wrote the number of week on top and divided one page to 4 and the other to 3. I drew a small banner at the end of each line and wrote the date in it and filled it in with pen. Next to it I wrote the day name and I was done. It just took 5 minutes.

The next page is a life saver for any student. It’s a study tracker. I took this idea from SEVENTEEN and I loved it. But mine came with a habit tracker next to it.

I drew a banner on top and wrote tracker multiple times to go with my party theme. I drew two perpendicular lines as if x and y axis. The vertical line is divided into 31 parts and I wrote the date next to it which seemed to have been cut out while I took the photo. Sorry about that, I am new to all this. Anyways, the horizontal axis is divided into 12 tiny parts which is my hours. Below this I gave each subject a specific color code. For each hour I spend studying a subject I fill up a box in my tracker. So, today on January 1st I spent 3 hours studying power electronics and so I filled three boxes using navy blue color. The reason I had to study 3 hours of power electronics was I didn’t for a long time which is a really bad thing and would cause severe damage to my grades. But by using this technique I can make sure this doesn’t happen again and also I get to say how productive I am.

Next to my study tracker I drew my habit tracker cause I was too lazy to do it again. This month I am gonna concentrate on yoga, vitamins, dancing and skincare. I wrote the initials of each on top. For everyday I perform an activity, I give a tick mark in the box.

The last page is my weekly goals. I divided it into four parts and drew banners and filled it with the week number. Here I write tasks I have to complete that week and for each completion I am gonna reward myself. This makes me wanna do stuff more and I feel more accomplished and happy.

So, yeah that’s my monthly bujo and it took me only an hour to do the whole thing. Actually an hour and a half cause I was watching the marvellous Mrs maisel while doing it. It slowed me down a bit but lovely show.

Hope you find this helpful. And you have full freedom to customise the design and add or remove logs in accordance to your needs

New beginnings

I started college in 2017. And I couldn’t handle it. To cope with it, I started a blog in 2018 and I wrote a few times a week. It was going OK I guess.

And then I got busy and started procrastinating about blogging. Pretty soon, I stopped and forgot all about it.

As the years coming to an end, I started reminiscing 2018 and there were some amazing things I did but also there were some pretty awful stuff. But the thing that stung me most was me quitting stuff I was excited about.

It’s 31st December, 2019, 12.24 am right now and 24 minutes ago out of the blue I decided to delete my WordPress account and start over. Didn’t even think about it, just clicked delete and created a new one with the first name I could think of ( I got a new highlighter today so) and now here we are.

My new beginning and not quitting this time. And now I am gonna go find some blog parties.
